Ernie Francis Jr. returns to podium in COTA Trans Am 100, Gar Robinson takes TA2 title in Austin, Texas as Katech-powered cars sweep TA2 podium

Katech engines dominated the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli races at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) this past weekend in Austin, Texas. Ernie Francis, Jr., the 2017 Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli TA Champion, returned to the top of the podium in the TA class at COTA in his Katech-powered Ford Mustang. Francis is the points’ leader in the TA class, and COTA was his second consecutive win and fifth TA victory of the season. He also set a new track record of 2:09.486, breaking his own record set in 2017.

In the TA 2 class, Katech drivers swept the podium. Gar Robinson edged out Misha Goikhberg in the COTA Muscle Car Challenge at COTA by .064 of a second in what race organizers called “one of the tightest finishes in the history of the Trans Am Series.” Dillon Machavern, in his Katech-powered No. 59 RedLineOil/Manufacturing News Chevrolet Camaro, finished third.  This is the 11th victory of Robinson’s career, which spans only 42 starts. Goikhberg, who has raced only four times, finished second for the second consecutive race. Machervern debuted a brand new car with team TRB Autosport for this race. Katech engines powered twelve of the 28 racecars competing in the TA2 race.

Our congratulations to Ernie, Gar, Misha and Dillon on their impressive victories, and we wish them success in the season finale next week at Daytona.”

In addition to victories in TA and TA2, a Katech-powered IMSA PC car driven by Don Yount won the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association U.S. Vintage Racing National Championship at COTA. Yount also competed in his 69’ Camaro with a brand new Small Block Chevrolet produced by Katech.

The final Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli event is at Daytona International Speedway Saturday, November 10th. Francis Jr.’s victory at the 2017 Trans Am Championship presented by Pirelli Finale was his 10th of the 2017 season.
