DETROIT, Mich. – May 6, 2019 – Katech driver Ernie Francis Jr. “stole the show” at the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli on Saturday, May 4th in his return to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Francis Jr., who has finished on 48 podiums and won 38 races in his Trans Am career, beat the second-place finisher by more than 28 seconds. This is Francis Jr.’s first win of the 2019 season.
When asked about his performance in his Katech-powered Ford Mustang, Francis Jr. said, “The car drove perfect, and I can’t say enough about how this thing drove. It was a dream to drive out there.”
“Winning a championship is hard, and defending it even harder as everyone is after you, but it’s clear after this past weekend’s performance that Ernie is up to the task,” said Kevin Pranger, director of motorsports with Katech. “The car ran great, the engine performed as expected, and it was truly a dominate performance. Congratulations to Ernie and the entire Breathless Racing team.”
Francis took home the first $500 Emco Gears Top Gear Award for winning the race and he received the Cool Shirt Cool Move of the race for leading the race by such a large margin.
The next Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli event is Memorial Day Motorsports Festival at Lakeville, Ct. May 24-27th.
