The Katech Installation Process

Vehicle Inspection

Each vehicle is inspected before installation begins to identify any mechanical concerns that should be addressed before modification. This initial evaluation helps establish a foundation for the completed Stage 3 performance package.

Baseline Dyno Testing

Baseline chassis dyno testing is performed before modifications to document incoming vehicle performance and establish a reference point for evaluating the completed package.

Cylinder Head Preparation

The LT5 cylinder heads receive Katech CNC porting, a 5-angle competition valve job, valve job hand blending, and cylinder head deck machining. These modifications are designed to improve airflow through the cylinder heads and support the increased performance demands of the Stage 3 combination. GM Gen V LT5 head gaskets and ARP head bolts are included for engine reassembly.

Camshaft and Valvetrain Installation

The Katech K-Force 3 or LT5 Race camshaft is installed with PSI 1516 valve springs, Katech tool steel intake and exhaust retainers, steel valve spring locators, Katech-spec Johnson lifters, and Trend pushrods measured for proper fitment. These components support the increased valve lift and operating demands of the upgraded camshaft.

Timing System and VVT Delete Installation

The factory timing configuration is upgraded with the Katech C5R timing chain, Katech timing chain guide, and Katech billet VVT delete front cover kit. These components support the upgraded camshaft and timing system configuration.

Supercharger CNC Porting and Induction Upgrades

The factory LT5 supercharger receives Katech CNC porting to improve airflow through the supercharger system. A Roto-Fab Big Gulp intake, Katech billet 112mm throttle body, 112mm adapter, and throttle body extension harness complete the upgraded induction system.

Supercharger Drive System Installation

The supercharger drive system is upgraded with a GripTec 2.9-inch upper pulley, ATI LT5 damper, ATI 5% overdrive supercharger pulley, and Gates HD belt. These components support the increased supercharger speed and airflow demands of the 1,000HP performance combination.

Required Performance Headers

Aftermarket performance headers are required for the Stage 3 1000HP configuration. Cooling System Upgrades

A Katech billet thermostat housing and 160-degree thermostat are installed as part of the package, with GM Dex-Cool coolant included for cooling system service.

HP Tuners Controller Unlocks

The Stage 3 package includes HP Tuners unlock services for the E99 ZR1 engine control module, FICM, and T87A transmission controller. These services provide access required for the applicable calibration work, with HP Tuners credits also included.

ECU Calibration

Following the required controller unlocks, Katech develops a custom ECU calibration appropriate for the Stage 3 1000HP performance combination. Calibration is tailored to the CNC-ported LT5 supercharger, 112mm induction system, upgraded camshaft, CNC-ported cylinder heads, modified supercharger drive system, and required headers.

Dyno Calibration and Validation

After installation, the vehicle receives chassis dyno calibration and performance validation. Dyno testing is used to evaluate the completed package, refine calibration, and compare performance against the original baseline results.

Street Drivability Calibration

Following dyno calibration, the vehicle receives street drivability calibration to refine throttle response, idle quality, part-throttle operation, and general driving characteristics. Particular attention is given to the operating behavior of the upgraded camshaft and increased supercharger output.
