Description
Katech LS7 / LS3 416ci K502 Camshaft
High-RPM Street Performance for LS7 and LS3-Based 416ci Builds, with Katech's Revised Smooth Lobe Design.
The Katech LS7 / LS3 416ci K502 Camshaft is an improved version of the Katech LS7 K501 Camshaft, developed for high-RPM street performance. Its revised smooth lobe design improves street manners and increases top-end performance without sacrificing bottom-end power compared with the Katech LS7 K501 Camshaft in the intended LS7 combination.
This hydraulic roller camshaft is suitable for LS7 and appropriately configured LS3-based 416ci engine builds. Specifications include 243°/257° duration at .050", a 113° lobe separation angle, and +3° camshaft advance. Valve lift is .650"/.650" with a 1.80:1 rocker ratio. Actual valve lift depends on the rocker ratio used in the completed engine.
The Katech LS7 / LS3 416ci K502 Camshaft provides strong mid-range and top-end performance in an appropriately matched LS7 combination. Power delivery, driveability, and operating range depend on displacement, compression ratio, cylinder heads, intake and exhaust systems, supporting valvetrain components, and calibration.
In an ideal LS7 vehicle combination using Katech CNC-ported LS7 cylinder heads, a free-flowing exhaust, an appropriate intake manifold, and supporting calibration, the Katech LS7 / LS3 416ci K502 Camshaft has the potential to produce 600 rear-wheel horsepower. Katech's supplied LS7 performance figures on 93 octane are 670 HP and 588 ft-lbs with MSD. Actual output depends on the complete engine and vehicle combination and testing conditions.
The Katech LS7 / LS3 416ci K502 Camshaft was designed to fit a stock-bottom-end LS7 with no cylinder head decking. Piston-to-valve clearance should be verified during installation in both LS7 and LS3-based 416ci builds, particularly when cylinder heads have been decked or thinner head gaskets are used.
Katech's LS7 valvetrain development includes Spintron validation to 8,000 RPM with the associated test combination. This validation speed does not establish an 8,000 RPM operating limit for every LS7 or LS3-based 416ci build.
